I didn't expect to love this book, but I did. I'm usually not drawn to women's fiction, but this one's cover drew me in! I guess I was in the mood for a giant peach dacquiri. I also bought the Audible book on this one and found the narrator to be almost magical. She was able to convey the warmheartedness and dollops of humor without seeming false. Her portrayal of all the character was excellent, and I'm sure her reading was one reason I enjoyed the books so much. The characters were well drawn and the main character wonderful! She's had the kind of childhood we all wish we'd had, and she weathers the current storms of her life with grace, kindness and humility. I will definitely buy the next book in the series. Congratulations on a wonderful book, Ms. Patton. (My five star ratings are reserved for the rarebook I would read a second time. So many books, so little time!)

This book was a pick for my Laides' Book Group and we all really enjoyed it. I was expecting it to be a "chick lit" type of book but it had much more depth than that and I loved the characters. This is a series and I will definitely read more. I was a southerner from GA who lived in NJ for 3 years so I could relate to this book.
This book portrays the most uninformed, shallow Southern woman possible. As a Midwesterner transplanted to the South, I could barely get through the book. It was an insult to my Southern friends as well. If it hadn't been a book chosen for my monthly bookclub, I would not have finished it. I did eventually get interested in the story, which lead me to read the sequel. Alas, the sequel was even more disappointing. There are much better books to read out there. Don't waste your time.
It's a nice story, a quick read. But I just got frustrated with the character - hard to believe anyone could be so naive and just plain clueless. It was nice to see her finally grow a backbone and step up to the plate, but really I don't have patience with seemingly intelligent (she was educated) who can't take care of themselves. And the plot line was predictable, the ending not a surprise.
I've been to Vermont and have friends there - it's beautiful, but yes, horribly cold and hardly any season except winter.
Cute. The perfect LeeLee gave up her perfect life in the south to follow her perfect husband to New England where his dream of owning an old bed and breakfast became reality. Was LeeLee cut out for this? Not so much. And she certainly wasn't prepared for what happened next!! The story was entertaining but at times during the chaos of it all I had to ask myself.... what about LeeLee's little girls? Are they up in the apartment watching cartoons 24-7? It was just a thought. Really though, I did enjoy this adventure and I do plan on buying more books by author Lisa Patton. Good read!
What a fun read. A Southern girl heads north with her husband and runs directly into disaster. From weather to food to just finding a good department store, this big town Southern belle learns to find her way in a small town in Vermont. Her life is turned upside down in more ways than one and in the process she finds the steel of her mettle.
The author pokes fun at all kinds of stereotypes - from the "woodchuck" Jeb to the domineering German Helga to the rich divorcee Barb to the lack of assertiveness of the Southern Belle LeeLee herself. I found myself in several of the characters and felt the wicked "poke" of the author more than once. Apart from an "ow" every now and then, I was laughing my head off.
I am looking forward to the next installment of LeeLee's life and times!
A very enjoyable read. Not heavy. Some great laugh out loud scenes! I loved the characters. AND the menu at the Inn. I learned a lot about Vermont winters. And the agonies of operating an Inn. Any woman who has been deserted by a husband and had children to raise will love this book.
I did think it ended with a lot of questions. Especially, regarding her relationship with Peter, the Chef. Most likely there will be a follow up book.
Having vacationed in Vermont, it does have its beauty and charm for a few weeks in the summer and autumn. However, the winters are long and hard. I am curious if this book is somewhat autobiographical? If so, she was a lot nicer to the coo coo husband than any woman I know!
I thought it was too expensive on the as most best sellers are only 9.99 and this one was 15.00. I did really enjoy it, anyway.
Leelee and Baker Satterfield decide to move from the deep South up north to Vermont. Baker, Leelee's husband has a dream of owning an Inn up North. Leelee is southern born and has her whole life tied up in her friends and children in their town. She does not want to move.
Leelee loves Baker and agrees to move up to Vermont with him, reluctantly. She is horrified by the state of the Inn they purchased.
The décor is horrible, the place stinks and the rooms for the family are in a desperate state.
Have fun as Leelee meets a unique set of staff that at first seem to be her enemies, but in the end become her trusted friends.
She must adjust to freezing temperatures, mud season, gossipy people in town and all of things required to take a stale old Inn and bring it to life.
She will have to endure missing her three best friends from home, a painful breach of trust in her marriage and the death of her beloved dog.
This book is light, fun and an enjoyable read from Lisa Patton.
