I disagree w/those who say this book is well-written. It's riddled with caveats as though the author lives in fear of lawsuits. The language is stilted and the text is internally inconsistent. Also, if you're looking for guidance for free-ranging your guineas, you will find little here. We recently bought a dozen keets and have housed them temporarily in a ten by thirty dog kennel with plastic fencing and shade cloth over the top to predator proof it. We plan to provide a coop but not a permanent run (half the point is bug control; no way to do that if you permanently fence them in), and there is little guidance in this book for doing that.

Update: I downgraded the book another star after reading Guineas: A Step-By-Step Guide to Raising Guinea Fowl on a Small Scale, which I highly recommend. This gal knows what she's talking about and can explain it without sounding like prescription drug ad.

reading it now, good book
If you are thinking of raising Guinea Fowl, get this book.
I love guineas and this book help me a lot about caring for my guineas.
This author gives great information on all aspects of acquiring, raising, feeding, housing, breeding, & handling Guinea fowl of all types.
Honestly when I picked up this book I couldn't tell you what a guinea fowl was, when I started reading I learned that I knew all along just by a different name- pheasant. I live in a semi rural area where people do keep poultry. I found this book fascinating. Marks covered everything I could dream up about Guinea Fowls. His information was straight to the point and included pictures. He starts with the history of the guinea fowl and talks about what it takes to keep them cost wise, space wise, and materials wise. He enlightened me on the predators of them, collecting eggs, breeding and so much more. If you are looking to keep guinea fowls this book will be a great support for you, if you just want to learn more this book has a mass amount of information and I was very impressed.
We have guineas that roam across several acres of property, including neighbors. They are "leftovers" from a family that raised them, then moved over 10 years ago. They are great bug and critter hunters, including scorpions. My wife has learned a lot about them from this book which answered all of the questions she had about them. Easy to read and well written. Each morning, she spreads out some scratch for them to eat....they feed themselves the rest of the time.
My favorite part about this book is that it’s not only informative and insightful, but also written in a very engaging and easy to understand manner that, for me personally, made the overall read just as enjoyable and entertaining as it was educational. As well as this, it is clear to me that the author truly has a passion for wildlife and it shows through the enthusiastic tone of the writing style. I can’t say that I plan on rearing any birds anytime soon, but I certainly feel much more competent towards the notion than I was prior to this read!
