Fabulous writing as always. I did, however, wish more of the book had been Sophie and Noah's story. It was more a family story with the romance as secondary, at least until the end. I was almost surprised to see it listed as a romance rather than women's fiction. Having said all this, it was beautifully written--albeit a bit lacking in conflict between Sophie and Noah--and I enjoyed it.Tags : Snowfall at Willow Lake (Lakeshore Chronicles, Book 4) [Susan Wiggs] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. I have to admit, even loving Susan Wiggs' books, seeing this one was about Sophie Bellamy gave me pause. Nothing previously lent to liking Sophie. But this book is a combo of the movies Baby Boom & Doc Holliday. And that's a good mix.
I just finished `Snowfall at Willow Lake' and am still moved by this story. To watch Sophie grow from a World Peace Maker to a Small Town Mother was incredible. How she made the change and taken the challenge to become the mother she never was when her children were small was lovely to watch. To see her take a lover and later a --- ops do not want to give the end away.
What she had endured in Umoja would give anyone nightmares, but what she had to endure in the small town she moved to were both scary. People the world over can be wonderful and others so small and spiteful, which she had to overcome to be with her children. And Noah, he would be any womans' dream.
Most Romnce stories are Fluff. This story is so beyond that.
Would I recommend this book??? YES in a heartbeat.
Storyline well thought out. Characters likable, story fast paced. Very enjoyable book. Interesting juxtaposition of man who has spent his whole life in Willow Lake and a woman who has led a high powered life as an attorney peseta get to the international court in The Hague. The book revolves around the developing relationship between them.
My least favorite of this series so far. I had no care for Sophie before reading this book, and none while reading it either. Her character is not interesting and all the foreign diplomatic stuff was super boring. Sophie's character was made to seem ugly (personality and as a mother) in all previous books and I found it difficult to feel otherwise in this book, despite attempts. I cared more about Noah's character than her or anyone else for that matter. It was jut OK, and only mildly entertaining compared to the previous books in this series.
Obviously, if you are reading the series than you should still read this book. It it nice to read all the books in a series even if some are better than others. If you are just reading books from this series at random, then I would skip this book. Not worth the read. Susan Wiggs has better works both in this series and otherwise.
This is a romance, but the first few chapters of the story, introducing us to Sophie Bellamy, are unlike any romance I've ever read. Bellamy is an attorney accepting an honor at the Hague for her work liberating a (fictional) African country. What happens that night sets the stage for the rest of the novel. Issues touched on family, divorce, working vs. stay-at-home parenting, small towns, May-December romance (in this case, the man is younger). The author kept me interested all the way through, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books.
Until Sophie nearly loses her life in a kidnapping, she doesn't realize how much she has missed out on her family life by pursuing her career in international law. She moves to a small town in New York to reconnect with her son, daughter, and new grandson. There she re-evaluates her life and becomes involved with Noah, a country vet. Ms. Wiggs has the ability to create multi-faceted characters that will resonate with the reader. Although, I don't believe this is her best book, it is a fine read that will provide hours of enjoyment. Although each book is a complete story, it is best if the series is read in order.
Fourth in the Lakeshore Chronicles pulled me in immediately because I saw so much of myself in the too-wed-to-work Sophie Bellamy, although the horror of kidnapping that she endures has never been my experience. Then there is younger-than-her Noah Shepard, the local veterinarian and her temporary neighbor. Whoa! With a vet like him in the neighborhood, who wouldn't want to adopt a cat or dog simply to bask in his beauty?
Sophie obviously agrees, but being a mom to her teenage daughter, Daisy, and her baby son, as well as 12-yr-old Max is the reason Sophie quits her job and flees to Avalon, NY. Sophie needs healing and Noah provides it, but will Sophie a) acknowledge and then b) act on her love for him? The soccer moms treat her like something they'd scrape off the bottom of their shoes and another local makes clear she's way too old for Noah. Her parents' expectations that she will go back to her high-powered position as an attorney for the International Court further pile on the guilt about what she SHOULD do, refusing to accept what she WANTS to do, where she WANTS to be.
Come on, Sophie. Step up and be a real woman, the mom you want to be, before it's too late. Will she hear my plea? Read for yourself.
Fabulous writing as always. I did, however, wish more of the book had been Sophie and Noah's story. It was more a family story with the romance as secondary, at least until the end. I was almost surprised to see it listed as a romance rather than women's fiction. Having said all this, it was beautifully written--albeit a bit lacking in conflict between Sophie and Noah--and I enjoyed it.
